What types of gifts do you suggest for different occasions?

What is the best housewarming gift? The two best housewarming gifts are the large Orchid, which is a statement indoor plant, or the Lime Tree, a wonderful outdoor plant that can be planted directly into the garden or a large pot. Both gifts come with a gift card with your personal message, beautifully boxed and delivered through New Zealand. These are gifts that will surprise and delight the recipient.
What is the best bereavement or sympathy gift? Bereavement or sympathy gifts are the reason we started Give Plants. We would recommend a plant like the Magnolia Port Wine that has beautiful flowers and is slightly scented. This grows to be a small tree, and we know planting this gift after a funeral or celebration provides great comfort. Or an alternative for indoors is the Peace Lily. Like all our gifts these come boxed with a card and your words of comfort.
What makes a great Christmas gift? Nothing says Xmas in New Zealand like the Kiwi Christmas Tree. We recommend the Metrosideros as the ideal gift for Christmas. It comes beautifully wrapped in a gift box with a card where you can add your Christmas message and special seasonal greeting.
What is the best birthday gift? Understanding who the gift is for is key to selecting the right gift option. We would suggest the best gift for her is an Orchid, either the large Gandiflora or the Phalaenopsis Orchid. The best gift for him would be the Lime Tree, something to celebrate and use over summer. Both are delivered NZ wide and come with a message card and presented in a gift box.
What is the best anniversary gift? We have sent a multitude of gifts to suit different anniversaries. A great example of this is we have sent Kowhai Dragons Gold to celebrate golden wedding anniversaries. These gifts are unique and last, providing a constant reminder of the special anniversary. This native tree produces fantastic yellow flowers and is delivered with care instructions, a personalised card, in a gift boxed.
What is the best gift to send for Valentines Day? Two plant gifts that work well for Valentines Day are the Anthurium with its heart shaped red flowers or the Orchid Grandiflora with is lovely bunches of white flowers. We also get asked what do you get your boyfriend or the man in your live for Valentines Day. We would suggest a Lime Tree as the special gift for the guy in your life. All gifts and are delivered in a gift box with a card.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my order? Orders are generally processed and dispatched the same day, but if you do want to change your order, send an email to info@giveplants.co.nz and we’ll do our best.
Can I send a plant to a PO box address? No, couriers will only deliver to a street address.
Do you send plants overseas? Sorry, but we only ship within New Zealand (excluding the Chatham Islands).
How are orders packaged?

We have designed our own corrugated cardboard boxes, which come in two sizes. They’re made from 68% recycled paper and the rest is from sustainable grown trees. The boxes are fully recyclable. They’re designed to protect the plant during delivery, by locking the plant in place. They also look smart when they’re delivered. The boxes open easily and have slots inside to allow a greeting card to be added without the need to use glue or extra packaging.

Each plant is placed inside a plastic bag that is secured to prevent soil loss and to retain the moisture that the plant needs. We use biodegradable bags, that can be composted at home or commercially.

Finally, both large and small plants are secured into their boxes for safe delivery.

How can I send plants as corporate gifts? Please contact us via admin@giveplants.co.nz and our Account Manager will get in touch with you to discuss your requirements. For larger volumes, we can co-brand the packaging to make your gift stand out.
How do I unpack my Give Plants gift?
  1. Remove from the box. Squash the box to put in your paper recycling.
  2. Cut the cord on the plastic bag, dispose in the rubbish bin.
  3. Lifting by the pot, not the plant, take out of the plastic bag. The bag is biodegradable and can be composted at home or commercially. Do not keep it in the bag or your plants roots will begin to rot.
  • Indoor plants come in an indoor pot that is ready to put in a medium to well-lit spot in your home. Water with ½-1 cup weekly depending on the warmth of its position.
  • Outdoor plants need to be planted into a larger outdoor pot or in the garden asap although if the soil is kept moist it will be fine in its pot for up to a month.
  • Further specific care instructions relating to your variety of plant are on the tag attached to the plant.
How long can my plant stay in its box as I am hand delivering my Give Plants gift?

Plants need light, air and water to remain healthy & green.

On receiving your gift, it is best to open the box immediately & keep it open until you are ready to give your gift.

Carefully pour ½ cup of water into the plastic bag, this should be sufficient water for up to 3 days provided your plant in not in full sun.

How should I plant and care for my plant? This website provides basic care instructions for each plant variety. For further information we would suggest looking at one of the New Zealand gardening advice websites.
What are your office hours? Our office is open 8.00-4.30, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays)
What if no-one’s home when the plant is delivered? Will it still be dropped off? All plants are ticked as 'leave at door' when ordering, your plant will be dropped off even if there is no-one at home. Often if there’s no-one home when the courier calls, they’ll leave a card in the letterbox advising the recipient to phone the courier company and let them know when they’ll be home for the courier to drop off their plant, or where it can be safely left.
What is your guarantee and returns policy? You are purchasing a gift for someone, so we understand the importance of the gift arriving safely.
